活性炭製造、プラント販売のベンチャー企業、カーボテック（京都市下京区）は伏見区横大路の高度集積地区に新工場を建設し、活性炭の増産に着手する。京都市内の業者から出た廃木材を活性炭にし、ごみ処理施設でダイオキシン除去に活用することで、国内初の廃木材の地域リサイクルシステム確立を目指す。２２日に完成式を開く。
新工場は同社初の自社工場で、平屋延べ１５５平方メートル。活性炭を製造する炭化炉と消煙装置、集じん装置などを備え、１日に約１・５トンの生産能力がある。現在の生産体制を約50%引き上げるほか、顧客用にプラントを展示するショールームにもする。投資額は９５００万円。
同社は、市内のリサイクル業者がチップ化した京都府内の廃木材を原料として購入。滋賀県や山口県などの委託工場でセラミックと混合し、独自開発の炭化炉で高機能活性炭を生産している。活性炭は、ダイオキシンを吸着除去する素材として、京都市南部クリーンセンター（伏見区）と西部クリーンセンター（西京区）で３年前から集じんフィルターに使われている。
建築リサイクル法の施行で、古い家屋の多い京都では廃木材の供給が増えており、廃材処理の需要も高いという。今回の新工場建設で、
石橋昇社長は、京都市内だけで廃木材が完全に循環するリサイクルモデルができるとし、「環境がビジネスとして成り立つことをモデルの中で検証していきたい」と話している。
