富山市エコタウン事業に参加するアイオーティカーボン（富山市、山口秀樹社長）は6日、リサイクル木炭ボードを組み込んだ畳を発売したと発表した。室内中のホルムアルデヒドやトルエンなどの有害ＶＯＣ（揮発性有機化合物）ガスを吸着除去し、室内の湿度も適度な水準に保つ効果があるという。
「おわら畳」の名称で同日付で発売した。冨士製畳（富山県八尾町、福島佳彦社長）と共同開発し、製造・販売も共同で行う。一畳当たり約1平方メートル、厚さ10—15ミリの木炭ボードを埋め込んだ。木炭ボードは木質系廃棄物を原料に開発した活性炭に近い素材で、ガス吸着性と調湿性が高い。
「おわら畳」は一畳でトルエン4万ミリグラム程度を吸着する能力を持つ。アンモニアや硫化水素も吸着する一方、過剰な湿気や極端な乾燥を防ぐ効果もある。
