地球の自転、速くなった　３０年前より４００分の１秒

地球の自転と時刻のずれを修正するため毎年のように実施されていた「うるう秒」のない期間が４年半も続いている。自転が速くなったためで、地球が１回転する時間は３０年前に比べ４００分の１秒ほど短くなっているという。「気候変動のせい」「地球深部で巨大地震が起きた」－。原因をめぐり、さまざまな説が指摘されている。
　国立天文台の真鍋盛二教授は「自転は月の引力の影響で長期的には遅くなっており、今回速くなったのは地球の歴史からみれば一瞬」とした上で、原因について「風の分布が変わるなど気候変動が一因だろう」と指摘。
　川崎一朗京都大防災研究所教授は「地球深部の核とマントルの境界で巨大地震が起き、核の形が変化すれば回転速度が変わる可能性がある」と話している。（共同通信）
