ソニー、ゲーム名に「衝撃と恐怖」を商標登録申請
【ロンドン＝飯塚恵子】英大衆紙デイリー・ミラーは１１日、ソニーが、イラク戦争で米英軍がとった作戦「衝撃と恐怖」の名称をコンピューターゲームのソフト名として米国で商標登録を申請したと伝えた。 反戦団体は「むかつくような戦争の商売利用だ」と厳しく非難し、反戦を主張するミラー紙も「この戦争では約５０００人が死んだ」と批判的に伝えた。 同紙によると、ソニーは開戦翌日の先月２１日、米特許商標局に登録を申請した。他にも殺虫剤を扱う英国企業などから申請があったという。 ソニーの「プレイステーション」広報部は「申請は戦争２日目でまだ何も起きていないころだった。もし名称を使うとしても、ゲームの発売は数年後になる」と弁明している。（読売新聞）

米ソニー・コンピュータエンタテインメント（ＳＣＥ）が、イラク戦争の作戦名「衝撃と畏怖」（英語表記Ｓｈｏｃｋ ａｎｄ Ａｗｅ）を米国の特許当局に商標登録申請したことについて、親会社のソニーは１５日、申請を取り下げることを決め、陳謝した。米国時間１５日朝に、取り下げの手続きを行う。
米ＳＣＥは開戦翌日の３月２１日、同商標を登録したが、英ガーディアン紙（電子版）が「日本のソニーが戦争で、もうけようと異例の措置を取った」と報道。ソニーは「登録を知ったのは報道から。国際情勢を考えると配慮に欠けていた」としている。【河村成浩】（毎日新聞）
