キーボード一体型のSocket 478対応自作PCキットが発売
3週間ほど前から一部ショップでデモが行われていたElite製のキーボード一体型Socket 478対応自作PCキット「A980」が販売開始となった。実売価格は39,800円
デスクトップPC用のSocket 478対応Pentium 4/Celeronなどのパーツが搭載可能な「A980」は、省スペース性を重視した自作PCキット。デスクノートPCから液晶モニタを取り去ったようなルックスが特徴で、本体には88キー日本語キーボードやタッチパッドといったノートPCと同様の入力デバイスを備えている。
チップセットはFSB 533MHz、DDR333、Ultra ATA/133、USB 2.0、VGA機能などをサポートするSiS651＋SiS962。Socket 478対応CPUのほか、DDR333対応DDR SDRAM DIMM、2.5インチHDD（9.5mm厚）、スリムタイプ光学ドライブなどのパーツが搭載可能だ。日本語のインストールガイドが付属しているので、この手の製品は初めてという人でも比較的楽にパーツなどの導入作業が行えるだろう。そのほか、製品には専用の薄型CPUクーラーやACアダプタ、光学ドライブ固定キットなどが付属している。
また、オプションパーツとしてGeForce 4を搭載した専用ビデオカードが用意されているのも特徴のひとつ。今回は残念ながら同時発売とはならなかったが、グラフィック性能重視の省スペースPCを自作したいという人には期待のパーツといえるだろう。
「A980」は、キューブ系などに比べれば拡張性は低いものの、PC本体に入力デバイスが一体化したことにより省スペース性はきわめて高くなっている。液晶モニタを搭載しない分、従来の自作デスクノートPCに比べ価格が非常に手頃になっているのも魅力的で、省スペース性とコストパフォーマンスを極めたいという人には狙い目の製品といえるだろう。
なお、同じEliteのWebサイトには、取り付けることで「ノートPC」が完成する一体型液晶ディスプレイもオプションとして掲載されているが、これは「工場出荷時のオプションで、別売予定はない」（USER'S SIDE本店）という。
