日立、水冷式デスクトップ/サーバー機を公開
株式会社日立製作所は、デスクトップ/サーバー機向けの水冷システム(Liquid Cooling System)を開発したことを発表した。2月18日から米サンノゼで開催されている「Intel Developer Forum(IDF)」にて、試作機が展示/公開されている。
デスクトップ/サーバー機用のほか、ブレードサーバー用やラックマウントサーバ用ーも用意される。ブレードサーバーは、本体ユニットに熱交換ユニットを搭載し、ブレードユニット間に配された冷却液循環パイプにより熱循環/放熱を行なう。ラックマウントサーバーは、ラック内に設置された冷却液循環パイプとサーバー本体の冷却パイプを接続して放熱を行なう。
従来の空冷方式を上回る冷却性能を実現し、限られた実装スペースに高性能なCPUを搭載できるという。また、PCやサーバー以外の電子機器にも応用可能で、高熱やファンノイズにも対応できるとしている。
水冷システム搭載のデスクトップ/サーバー機の発売日や価格などは未定となっている。同社では、水冷システムを搭載したノートPC「FLORA 270Wサイレントモデル」を2002年9月より発売している。
